최경은: 네, 안녕하세요, 여러분.
K: So, hello, everybody.
김현정: 안녕하세요.
H: Hello.
최경은: 현정 씨, 오늘은 (네) 뭐에 대해서 이야기할까요.
K: Hyunjung, what are we going to talk about today?
김현정: 여름인데 춥다.
H: It’s summer, but it’s cold.
최경은: 어디가요? 어디가 여름인데 추워요?
K: Where? Where is it cold in summer?
김현정: 사무실이요.
H: In the office.
최경은: 사무실이요?
K: The office?
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 사무실은 솔직히 안 추워요, 현정 씨.
K: Honestly, the office isn’t cold, Hyunjung.
김현정: 저는 너무 추워요.
H: It’s really cold to me.
최경은: 현정 씨는 추위를 정말 많이 타나 봐요.
K: It seems like you’re really sensitive to the cold.
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 아… 저도 추위를 정말 많이 타는데, 현정 씨는 더 많이 타는 것 같아요.
K: Ah…I’m also really sensitive to cold, but I think you’re more sensitive.
김현정: 제가 조금 추운 거를 힘들어해요. (아…) 그러니까, 많이 추우면 (네) 몸이 그걸 느끼지 못 해서, 너무 추우니까 괜찮은데요 (아…) 조금 추우면 정말 추워요.
H: It’s hard when I feel a little cold. Because, if I’m really cold, I can’t feel it, so if it’s really cold, I’m okay. But if it’s a little cold, then I’m really cold.
최경은: 어, 신기한데요?
K: Oh, that’s interesting?
김현정: 네… 그렇죠?
H: Yeah…right?
최경은: 그런데, 사실 한국의 여름은 (네) 굉장히 덥고 (네) 습하잖아요?
K: But, actually the summers in Korea are really hot and humid, you know.
김현정: 더운 것은 괜찮은데, 습하면 끈적끈적해서 (아…) 너무 힘들어요.
H: Being hot is okay, but if it’s humid, it gets sticky and it’s really tough.
최경은: 네, 맞아요. 습하면 몸이 끈적끈적해지고 원래 쫌 기분이 나빠지잖아요. (네) 습하면…근데 사실 서울은 (네) 건물에만 들어가도 에어컨이 나오니까 습한 건 사실 못 느끼겠어요, 저는.
K: Yeah, you’re right. If it’s humid, it gets sticky and basically you get in a bit of a bad mood, don’t you. If it’s humid…but actually, in Seoul, even if you just go in a building, the air conditioning is on, so I can’t really feel the humidity.
김현정: 근데 문제는, (네) 저는 에어컨이 너무 싫어요.
H: But the problem is, I really hate air conditioning.
최경은: 너무 추워서요?
K: Because it’s so cold?
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 그렇죠. 밖에 나가면 너무 덥고 (네) 건물 안에 들어가면 에어컨 때문에 또 너무 춥고.
K: Right? If you go outside, it’s hot, and if you go in a building, it’s too cold again because of the air conditioning.
김현정: 그래서 감기 걸리고.
H: So you catch a cold.
최경은: 맞아요. 감기 걸리죠. 저는 그래서 사실, 여름에도 항상 긴팔을 들고 다녀요. (아…) 지하철에 타면 너무 추워서 (네) 어떻게 하지를 못 하겠는 거예요. 정말 팔이 얼 것 같아요.
K: Right. You catch colds, don’t you? So actually, in the summer, I wear long sleeves. If I ride the subway, since it’s really cold, I can’t do anything about it. And my arms feel like they’re freezing.
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 그죠? 그 정도로 춥죠?
K: Right? It’s that cold, isn’t it?
김현정: 네. 지하철, 은행.
H: Yeah. The subway, the bank.
최경은: 아, 은행.
K: Ah, the bank.
김현정: 그리고 우리 사무실!
H: And our office!
최경은: 사무실은 솔직히 안 추워요.
K: The office is honestly not cold.
김현정: 아니에요. 석진 씨가 더위를 너무 타서 (아…) 언제나 선풍기도 틀어놓고 에어컨도 틀어 놔요.
H: Yes, it is. Seokjin is really sensitive to heat, so he always turns on both the fan and the air conditioner.
최경은: 아, 진짜요. 그 선풍기 바람이 현정 씨 자리까지 가나요?
K: Oh, really. The breeze from the fan reaches your seat?
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 아, 그렇구나. 저는 쫌 사무실은 더운 것 같아요.
K: Oh, I see. I feel a little hot in the office.
김현정: 정말요?
H: Really?
최경은: 네.
K: Yeah.
김현정: 우와. 그러면 (네) 경은 씨도 그 작은 선풍기를 사면 (아…) 정말 많이 추워져요.
H: Wow. Then if you buy a little fan too, it’ll get really cold.
최경은: 그러면 또 추울 것 같아요.
K: Then you’ll get even colder.
김현정: 어쩔 수가 없군요. 경은 씨.
H: It’s unavoidable, Kyungeun.
최경은: 네. 저는 조금 추위도 많이 타고, 더위도 많이 타서 (음…) 저는 여름도 별로 안 좋아하고 겨울도 별로 안 좋아해요.
K: Yeah. even though I’m a little sensitive to the cold, I’m also sensitive to heat. I don’t really like summer, and I don’t really like winter.
김현정: 저도 봄, 가을이 제일 좋아요.
H: I like spring and summer best, too.
최경은: 그렇죠, 봄가을이 제일 좋죠. 날들. 그렇죠?
K: Right? Spring and summer are the best, aren’t they? The daytime. Right?
김현정: 또 여름을 춥게 만드는 또 한 가지 방법.
H: Also, there’s one way to make summer colder.
최경은: 음… 뭐가 있죠?
K: Um…what is it?
김현정: 무서운 이야기?
H: Scary stories?
최경은: 아, 저 정말 싫어요. 저는 그래서 여름만 되면 (네) 사람들이 무서운 이야기를 많이 하고 (네) 또 텔레비전에 무서운 영화들을 많이 보여주잖아요? (그렇죠) 근데 사실 저는 무서운 이야기나 무서운 영화를 너무, 너무 싫어해서 정말 여름에는 텔레비전 켜기가 싫어요.
K: Oh, I really hate those. So when summer comes and people tell a lot of scary stories, and also they show a lot of scary movies on TV, right? But actually I really, really hate scary stories and scary movies, so I hate turning on the TV in the summer.
김현정: 아, 경은 씨 꿈에 나타난다고 그랬죠.
H: Oh, because it gives you nightmares.
최경은: 네, 저는 악몽을 좀 심하게 꾸는 편이라서… (네) 음… 너무 싫어요.
K: Yeah, I get awful nightmares pretty easily, so…um…I really hate it.
김현정: 저는 그런 것에서는 무섭지 않은데, 친구들이 가끔 무서운 이야기를 해 달라고 (네) 자꾸 말하면 아는 게 없는데, (네) 그래서 결국 제 주변에 있었던 이야기를 해 주거든요? (아…) 그러면 그 얘기를 한 번 들은 친구들은 두 번 다시 저한테 무서운 얘기 해 달라는 말을 안 해요.
H: I don’t get scared from those things, but sometimes my friends ask for scary stories, and I always say I don’t know any, but eventually I tell them a story about our surroundings. Then the friends who I’ve told a story to once don’t ask me for scary stories again.
최경은: 아, 진짜요? 그러면 현정 씨가 다음에 저 말고 현우 씨나 석진 씨랑 같이 (네) 같이 이렇게 이야기를 할 때 무서운 이야기 특집으로, 무서운 이야기를 해 주면 (음…) 저희 리스너분들이 시원한 여름을 맞을 수 있지 않을까 싶은데요.
K: Oh, really? Then next time, instead of you, when Hyunwoo and Seokjin are telling those kinds of stories, a scary story feature, when they’re telling scary stories…I’d hope it would give our listeners a chilly summer, wouldn’t it?
김현정: 그런데 제가 하는 무서운 이야기는 다 있었던 일인데요?
H: But when I’ve run out of scary stories?
최경은: 음… 그래도 무서우면 좋은 것 아닌가요?
K: Um…still, if they’re scared, wouldn’t it be good?
김현정: 경은 씨 같은 분이 있으면 어떡해요?
H: What if there are people like you?
최경은: 아… 그런 분한테는 미리 경고 메시지를 써 놔야죠. (아…) 그런데 괜찮을 것 같은데요? 무서운 이야기 특집.(음….)
K: Oh…you should write a warning in advance for those people, shouldn’t you? And then I think they’ll be okay. For a scary story special.
김현정: 그런 걸 한국어로 뭐라고 하죠?
H: What would it say in Korean?
최경은: 납량특집.
K: “Cool Breeze Special”
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 그런 걸 납량특집이라고 합니다. 그런데 사실 여름에 차가워지는 방법 하나 더 있어요.
K: We’ll call it the “Cool Breeze Special”. But actually there’s one other way to cool down in the summer.
김현정: 뭔데요?
H: What’s that?
최경은: 시원한 음식 먹기.
K: Eating cold food.
김현정: 아, 팥빙수!
H: Oh, patbingsu!
최경은: 팥빙수, 냉면, 콩국수.
K: Patbingsu, naengmyeon, bean soup.
김현정: 식혜!
H: Shikhye!
최경은: 식혜도 좋고요. 한국에 시원하게 먹을 수 있는 음식들이 굉장히 많죠.
K: Shikhye is good too. There’s really a lot of cold foods you can eat in Korea.
김현정: 네.
H: Yeah.
최경은: 저는 사실 아이스크림은 먹어도 시원해지는 느낌 잘 모르겠어요. (음…) 차라리 냉면이나 뭐, 그런 팥빙수나 이런 것들 (네) 먹으면 괜찮은 거 같아요.
K: Actually even when I eat ice cream, I don’t know that I feel cooler. I’d rather eat naengmyeon or, like, that patbingsu or those kinds of things, I think it’s better.
김현정: 아, 저도 냉면 먹고 싶어요.
H: Oh, I want to eat naengmyeon too.
최경은: 그럼 우리 점심으로 오늘 냉면 먹을까요?
K: Then do you want to have naengmyeon for lunch today?
김현정: 그럴까요?
H: Should we?
